ZETA TAU ALPHA + KAPPA SIGMA | Engaged
In 2008, Alicia decided to leave Wisconsin and transfer to South Carolina to attend Winthrop University. Little did she know that in doing so she would eventually meet her future husband, Mike, who was already a sophomore on the campus. Living in a new culture, Alicia decided to embrace her new school and attend a party at one of the local fraternities, Kappa Sigma. Coming from up North, she was interested in exploring the southern lifestyle, including Greek Life.
Michael remembers that specific event and meeting Alicia. She, on the other hand, found moving and rush week all a bit much to process. While enjoying herself, she was also a bit overwhelmed by that whole time. Alicia pledged the Theta Sigma chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha, which has been a part of the university campus since 1979, having been recolonized in 2013. She found herself becoming close friends with Mike during their college years, and in 2010 Alicia called asked him to be her date for her sorority Spring Formal. This is the type of Greek Life love story that just gives us all the feels because so many of us can relate to it!
Carolina Panthers vs. Denver Broncos
Alicia’s family found a home in Fort Myers, FL to rent during Super Bowl weekend. The family was gathering to be together for the anniversary of Alicias’ grandmothers passing and, on a rowdier note, the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers football game. The following day her immediate family went out to lunch together. As they were leaving, Mike knelt to tie his shoe and Alicia jokingly proclaimed “Oh, are you practicing proposing?!”. Ironically, she didn’t know that was precisely his intention once they were another 15 minutes further down the road at Fort Myers Beach Pier. When they arrived at the pier she was preoccupied with the beach and wasn’t very interested in her boyfriends second faux proposal of the day. As other tourists on the pier began to point at them, she realized that this wasn’t him being funny but was in fact, THE moment. After realizing what was happening she say Yes to him with her family standing close by.
Meet Madison
Who else is totally smitten by their sweet golden retriever?! Madison, their almost 5 year old golden retriever, came into their lives by way of Alicia’s family friend who is a breeder in Wisconsin. Hence her name – Madison. As in, you know, Wisconsin! How clever is that!? They love taking her with them on the park trails, giving her cuddles, and treating her to some peanut butter on special occasions.
