KAYLEE + DANIEL • CASPER, WY
CHI OMEGA + SIGMA CHI | August 05, 2017
Shortly before the summer of her sophomore year at college Kaylee was invited to Sigma Chi Fraternity for dinner. During her evening at the house she was introduced to Daniel and the two spent the night chatting together. Unfortunately, she was headed back home for the summer leaving them apart for months. Fall finally came and Kaylee returned to campus for workweek at the Chi Omega house. And who was there to help move her back in? Daniel, of course! Yep, we’re smitten, he’s a keeper! The Sigma Chi’s invited Kaylee and some of her sisters and friends over for a movie night. At the end of the evening he offered to walk her back across the large grassy field that separated his fraternity home from her sorority house. It wasn’t long before they realized that the sprinklers had been on earlier in the night and Kaylee’s flip flops weren’t providing much protection from the cold night. Being the gentleman that he is, Daniel cam to her rescue, scooping her up in his arms and carrying her across the field. Okay, now if y’all aren’t saying awwww… right about now, you’re about to! Later on in their relationship she found out that while she only had flip flops on Daniel was actually walking through the field barefoot! Out of excitement and nervousness for a moment alone with her and to finally be able to ask her on a date he had left his house sans shoes! We love how he was so concerned with her well being that he didn’t even let her worry about his footwear (or lack there of) predicament.
Being involved in Greek Life on campus generally means you are fairly active on the rest of campus, this holds true for Daniel too. In June he asked Kaylee to attend yet another banquet at the park; which, of course, she agreed to although she was a bit grumpy when he told her that dinner wasn’t until 8 o’clock. In Kaylee’s words, “I get hangry”. As they got close to the park Daniel told her that his friend had informed him that they needed to park across the road from the park and walk the rest of the way over. The anger part of Kaylee’s hangry situation roared its’ head. She was not thrilled with this development, especially being dressed up for the banquet. It was almost sunset and ahead of them there was a bridge with flowers. She ignored her surroundings focusing on her unpleasant trek across the park. Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there! Daniel paused on the bridge asking her to read the directions to the banquet that he had written down. He handed her the paper, knowing that she figured he had gotten them lost. But, instead of directions, she found herself reading a poem that he had written for her birthday her two years earlier. Only this time it was longer, as he had added more to the end. She finished reading and finally glanced up to find him on one knee. To his delight she said yes and they celebrated by going to a fancy dinner together. Daniel told Kaylee that “he was glad [she] was irritated otherwise [she] wouldn’t have been surprised.”
Sisterhood First
The spring before Daniel proposed, Kaylee’s Chi Omega Big Sister passed away. The two were close and not a single wedding event or party went by without Kaylee thinking of her. On the wedding day it was important to Kaylee that she have a token to remember her and have her by her side when she said her vows. The memento that she selected was the handkerchief her big had given her for initiation. She wrapped the cloth around her bouquet. Her sorority twin sister gifted Kaylee a necklace to wear that had the guard of her bigs’ badge. Four of her five bridesmaids were her Chi-O sisters so she was surrounded my their love all day long.
On their wedding day at Three Crowns Golf course in Casper, Wyoming Kaylee remembers seeing him cry as she walked down the aisle, her own tears greeted his. He recalls “The moment I saw Kaylee walking toward me it was the pinnacle of my disbelief that I was actually the single guy so fortunate to be able to spend the rest of my life with her.” During their ceremony they were both so lost in one another as they exchanged their hand written vows in which she told him how he was the one that made her believe in marriage and promised that he could be the little spoon – sometimes. Daniel, with 3 of his Sigma Chi brothers beside him as witnesses, vowed to always better himself for her, and to love her first above all others. She loved the way that he promised unwavering loyalty in thought, word, & deed. During the ceremony they asked for a moment of silence for the loved ones who had passed, placing a rose on the empty chair in the front row.
The couple chose a wedding venue that would allow for an outdoor ceremony and a combination indoor and outdoor reception space. Their wedding day vision was brought to life with flowers of blush and burgundy with pops of greenery and natural shades. Those colors could be seen in their naked cake which was adorned with macaroons and paired with cupcakes. Two of her favorite moments from the reception were the special songs with her Greek Life family, Daniels’ Sigma Chi brothers serenading her & being sun shades by her sorority sisters.
